The ultimate checklist of preparing for baby is finally here! The baby product recommendations make life as a mom so much easier and help parents have a little peace in their day as a first time parent. There are also products below that are incredibly great baby items when on a budget.
I remember thinking with each baby that because someone said “this was the best” then it really must work well. However, You really don’t need a million things when having baby. There are things that did come in handy and I absolute loved and wished I had with my first. Did I need some of the items I will list below? Probably not, but I am so glad I used them and how incredibly helpful they actually were during the times we needed them most.

At The Hospital
Yes, the hospital provide basically anything you really need there and as you leave, but for some reason non of my kids would take the binky they provided. They normally would take the little butterfly binky right away. Since my babies used me as a soother, I fell in love with the binky!
2. Going Home Outfit
I always brought two thinking I might have a randomly large baby. HA. nope never used the larger sizes but always brought two different ones.
3. Swaddle Blankets
I have grow to love love love this Swaddle Blanket from Little Unicorn Official. It is large enough they would never grow out of it and thin enough they won’t sweat to death in. They are also great prices always. I only ever bought one for each of the kids and those were my favorite. (We were also given so many fun ones from friends similar to this set from Aden+Anais . )
For my older two kids they have transitions to larger carseats from eddeie brauer Brand. We have loved them. Our newest find was from Evenflo for our third. You can read about my review on the carseat here.
I always bring my journal because …well you are stuck there for two quiet days with a mostly sleeping newborn and since you can’t go anywhere journaling is the best option. Also if you want to get the baby footprints you can put it in there! I always somehow forget and later make these fun DIY Butterfly Footprints when I get home.
6. Mom & Dad
And there of course is a ton of things I would list for mommy and daddy. But essentially, just think comfy, practical, camera, chargers, and bathroom things.
7. Diaper Bag
OKAY ya’ll I have a diaper bag I have had since my first. My husband picked it out saying, “I want it black and manly so IF I have the baby I will still be a man.” HAHA right?! For the record it has lasted us but it definitely does not have enough pockets for all the things I need now to cart three kids essentials. I am saving for either this one or this diaper bag from Petunia Pickle Bottom. (Adore this shop) If my husband got to choose the next diaper bag he would choose the Diaper Dude Bag
For The Home
Crib, Cradle, Co-sleeper
What crib do you prefer? We have done all three so far with all the kids! My father-in-law made this adorable cradle you can see on instagram of a few shots of the girls snuggling. We have cribs from Wal-mart. Lately, with my sweet peach I have been co-sleeping on and off. When she was born I had such bad postpartum that it made me has less anxiety to actually be sleeping by her. This went on for the first 6 weeks and now she sleeps in the cradle in our room.
2. Baby Carrier
I have tried a lot of carriers from friends and family and have found TWO I love the best so far. First, I tried the ERGO BABY with my first and loved it so much! I used it with my second and occasionally with our third also. I have also been trying to wear my little one more and more with The Happy Baby Wrap where you can read my review here. I honestly have loved using the wraps more because I can nurse in it while carrying her.
3. Pack ‘n’ Play
I don’t have a favorite but the one we have had for three year is this Eddie Bauer one have loved the convince of having it when traveling with babies. We have flown a few times and it was so useful!
We had a swing but honestly gave it away when my second was 4 months old and really found it was not really needed (although it was the best thing ever!) We use this automatic bouncer that is really affordable when on a budget. We tried the Mamaroo one from a friends house and kinda were in love with it how fast our little one dozed off! Of course I could stand there and rock her the same but sometimes mommy needs a break.
Have you seen these? I wish I had this with my first one and my second! They were having a huge sale this weekend on all DockATot’s and Covers! I did have to save awhile for one but am so glad I did! It is the best thing for traveling, co-sleeping, or inserting it into the cradle/crib. It unbuckles as they get older and you can transition them in a toddler bed with it so they learn to stay in the bed. Check them out here to learn more! Best purchase ever so far. I will be posting about our journey with the newborn size as well as toddler size soon! I was lucky to collaborate with the company and can’t wait to share what I have found.
6. Snacks and Caffiene…..
If you know me you know I have have a bunch of crazies living under one roof. my kids are nuts haha! So there of course are going to be those days I need yummy mom snacks I hide from my kids, and of course my handy little friend Dr. Pepper. Okay not the best choice but after a long day of tantrums that seems like the reasonable choice right?
For some reason our kids never can breathe at night. The always wake up with stuffy noses, an occasional bloody nose from to dry of weather, or just congested in their chest. We recently bought this humidifier for Christmas (but using it now ha) and I am kinda in LOVE with it mainly because it comes in PINK and a fun shape. It creates mist to come out, while being very quiet. My favorite feature so far is that it turns off automatically when the water is gone. Could you love it anymore? Because there are so many colors to choose from I chose the pink one to go with my 2017 Nursery Redesign Theme.
8. White Noise Machine
Our older kids have always been scared of the dark and loved lullabies to be sung to them. We have had this Munchkin Nursery Projector since the my first was born! It has been the best while they were sharing rooms and displayed sheep and stars that moved to the songs. It also turns off on a set timer when done.
9. Essential Oils
Oh my goodness if there is anything I swear by right now, it is essential oils. I use so many that this deserves it own post to come. My favorite so far has been putting Lavender in a spray bottle and spraying their pillows or room slightly. I use it for migraines, or just before I go to bed to help relax.
10. Book, Bubbles, and Brushing Teeth
Of course we have a home routine we try to stick with on good nights. They take a bath or shower depending on what they want to do and I put Lavender in the tub. The kids pick out their favorite books and we read one or two before bed. They brush their teeth (or we do really) kinda. Sometimes there is rocking for my son because that has been his go to calm down trick since he was a baby, and they go to their beds.
Oh how I could continue to list all my favorite products but it is 11pm here and I am ready to hop into bed. Hopefully you can find some of these on sale for the holidays. Of course I will continue to update this post because like I said there are tons of things I had used and still use that have become essentials for us.
Yes, we could get away without a baby wrap or white noise machine, but they have just made our lives a little easier for daily routines with the kids.
