Yes Un-marketable is a word…Today.
But if you saw my post on Kirsten Tyrrels Marvelous Maskcara Blog then that is most likely why you are here now.
So you are in this business and ready to get going STRONG but your not a blogger, a social media guru, or even mom who has friends other than the kids running around screaming something along the lines of mommy ten million times a day..
You have so many avenues of marketing your business that we can will talk about today without hounding your direct friends and family.
I will be honest with you, the only reason I can write this post is because I tested and tried all ways when beginning. I like research and I like to know for myself what is beneficial to continue with a business and what is simply a waste of my time.
I was anti-MLM companies. I never understood them until I joined one.
Right off the bat I noticed how different this company was set up. Besides all the things like no monthly requirements, no inventory, and no pressure to host things (unless you want to) there was the founder Cara whose entire heart is devoted in this business to serve the women around her by having others learn directly from her and then in return teaching those around them also.
I mean for heavens sake the mission statement reads,
“Everything we do and everything we create is based on what we believe in. That helping others look beautiful is nice but helping them believe they are beautiful is life changing. Happiness is contagious. And with enough courage, creativity, and optimism you actually can have your cake and eat it too.”
That RIGHT THERE tells you her heart is in this business.
Enough of my direct sales business (you can learn about all our fun HERE in my Facebook group) and lets get to how to market the unmarketable client.
HOW TO FIND YOUR AUDIENCE
Now that you signed up with whatever business you are doing, your next question is to narrow down who your audience is.
YES, you need to do this.
You might be thinking thats easy it is, “Women” or “people who like oils”, or “those who like to jog.
No dig deeper than that. It can’t just be “those who wear makeup, lipsense, or the wraps”.
When you have a road audience your group posts will be all over the place and have no “What is in it for them” juice that might actually lose you followers. So if it is for those who wear makeup, lipsense or something, are they just girls who like makeup? Moms trying to find time to get ready, Women of all ages who focus on Natural Everything?
Once you narrow it down to they type of audience you are gearing towards you can then come up with successful ways to market in their favor that will SOLVE A PROBLEM.
WHAT IS IN IT FOR THEM
Why did you begin this business? To make an income on the side on was it more deeper than that?
For example, when I began working my why was very different than it is now. I cannot say how many times i now have said, “I never knew I needed the friendships I have formed in this business until i joined this.”
You know what? It is 100% true.
I had postpartum so badly with each of my kids. When they say, “the struggle is real” they are not kidding. But I tried the product, LOVED it and knew from the beginning I wanted to be apart of this before it even was a direct sales company.
But what I didn’t know is this group of women were going to become the most supportive group of friends/sisters I will ever know, yet have never met at the same time. I have been on the phone with so many women I would never had contacted until this. Find a company you can not only stand behind but love the women you work with.
So when you join your business, figure out not only WHAT IS YOUR WHY but also figure WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
Do you want to just sell the product? Do you want to help your audience feel more confident even if it is through something small? Do you just want to have more friends and a company like yours allows you to get out there and talk to mommy friends for once?
What does your audience NEED and how can you solve the problem. If its through oils, do you have solutions to solve calming, headaches, tantrums, or upset stomach? SOLVE A PROBLEM for your audience daily.
The reason they will continue to come to you over and over again is because they trust you and your opinion. So continue to help solve their needs. this will continue to bring in new people in your groups as well.
BE A GOOD FRIEND TO YOUR FRIENDS
Like I said above I started thinking about every direct sales line and how they go out things. I did it wrong and I know this now.
I was so busy focusing on paying rent that in my mind that was the overall goal my first month. Yes, I got sales and they were good! But at the same time I was not being a good friend. I needed to reach out to my friends because I loved them and their feedback. I love seeing their families grow and seeing how they are doing but would scroll by because it was not my focus. Listening to my friends needs, asking them their advice, and reaching out in a genuine way is THE MOST IMPORTANT.
Wait, what? What about sales?
You have heard of the Law of attraction? Well, none of those friends won’t become sales and I know this. But reaching and making sure they know I love them and they are important makes me grow more and feel like I am being a good friend even though I cannot BE THERE for them.
But what about the sales?
They will come.
Maybe not from those you reach out to on threads of their family because thats not the point to make all your friends sales. You were not that friend before the company don’t be that friend now. Be the friend not tied to an outcome or the friend who slips in a “by the way”. By being the person you want in return as a client you need to be that person now. Put your friends first and put them first with all your heart. Support them and their business and they will support you even if they don’t turn into a client.
The sales will come from the clients you attract.
WEAR YOUR PRODUCT
No brainer right? You should be promoting the line how you can and when it is easy to transition into.
But you said, “Don’t be that friends?”
You are right, don’t be the friend who has an alternative motive in messaging people knowing you are transitioning into a dead end. But there is no reason why you can’t transition into product talk when it comes up. “I love your lip color”, “You look amazing what has changed”, “Where did you get that color”.
We will go over this more in our team training page. But essentially you are always the best one to promote the product at all times.
So make it easy to do so. (I leave business cards everywhere I go, have dabbled in Facebook ads, Pinterest Ads and intend to apply the lessons into attracting the right clients throughout the month of September.)
DON’T BE A PEOPLE PLEASER BUT A PEOPLE PERSON
But I am an introvert not a people person!? Its okay calm down you can read about being an introvert in sales here. This does not mean you have to like big groups of people but this does mean you need to know business you are in and know they audience you are attracting. Isn’t that why you started? You loved the product and love the people you share it with?
Every course I have ever sat through always mentioned about, “Post about the product, sell the product, wear it, love it, live it, etc.” I hated that even in the salon. The best advice I ever got was when I was told, “You are not selling the product, you are selling YOU.” You are selling the feeling you feel about why you began this business you are trying to brand yourself with.
When you lead with product, product, product you will end up with NO SALES. That stinks because you love the product and want others to love it as well. So exactly what I tell my team, “It is not all about how many times you post about the product. It is about YOU, the trust you build through honest reviews, and letting the real you come across like that in every post. Not just product, product, product posts.
YOU are the one they want to hear from. But not just about the product. The audience that you narrowed down to lets say Living Green, will be not only looking for your product to solve their problems but also other GREEN ways to solve everyday needs. Do you see what I mean?
When you become a people person who loves to serve your clients in a way that provides useful information, genuine products, and most importantly a good friend who just loves to share their why and how they became attached to the company, Then you will see the clients you want to see. You will build that following of people who WANT TO BE in the group and were not just thrown into a Facebook Page.

I never thought I would be apart of Direct Sales until I jumped on and never looked back.
